The extraordinary world of Mike Harridge - his exhibition is open to the public from tomorrow, the 6th of December.

Mike and I go back a long way. We have been friends since the very early '70's

Few know that he is a multi gold medal winner at the Chelsea Flower show with his horticultural work.

What a personal joy for me to see his exhibition (I think his first in many years) on the walls at the BAREFOOT GALLERY.

Vintage Poster of Ceylon - the Anura Saparamadu Collection. BAREFOOT GALLERY, Colombo.

PLEASE DO NOT MISS THIS EXHIBITION - IT IS BRILLIANT.

The posters designed by C.K.L.Samarasingha and G. S Fernando for the Government Tourist Bureau are gems;  Reggie Candappa's work is also superb.

Anura Saparamadu has been collecting classic posters of Ceylon for a long time. Through the years his poster collection grew to more than 250 examples that showcased the talents of Ceylon's artists. In 2011, Anura published 'Vintage Posters of Ceylon' a cofee table book that featured his entire collection.
This exhibition highlights some of the finest examples of Vintage Ceylon posters from the late 1890s up to 1972.

Reproductions are available for sale at 3000/- and postcards at 350/-

A public lecture and an open discussion by Lalith Gunaratne. Tonght, at Barefoot Gallery at 7.30pm

Lalith Gunaratne

“Inherent Goodness of the Human –

but then why are we in this mess?”

Us humans are driven by certain ideologies we create for ourselves based on the experiences we have had and the world around us. These ideologies can create a compassionate world on one hand and on the other it could create war and mayhem. I would like to explore whether in fact, these ideologies may turn out to be not as true as we thought at the end and whether we could become much more open, flexible and vulnerable to live a life of continuous inquiry and learning.

Date: Friday 15th October , 2010

From: 7:30 pm

At: BAREFOOT

Seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

A big 'Thank You' to everyone who turned up for the concert....

It drizzled from early afternoon, it was damp, it was wet.

A great group of friends and supporters turned up to listen to Glen, Jerome, Christo Prins, Ray Gomes, Harsha Makalanda, Upula Madushankar and Harshan Gallage. As soon as the rain stopped, they had everyone dancing till way past midnight.

My thanks too to all the staff at the Barefoot Garden Cafe for all their hard work and support.
