Although I am not a photographer I have some experience in photographing jewelry. In most of the e-commerce web sites you can see very clear pictures of jewelry. An apparatus called "light diffusion tent" is generally being used for this sort of photography. Once I made one at home and it was a very interesting exercise. I have done it after reading a 'how to' document in a website. But I do not have the address with me. Also there are special ways that you can process jewelry photos using photoshop to remove shadows and get a homogeneous shine. I think you will find this piece of information is useful.
