Along time ago in South Sulawesi...The Toraja.

It was many moons ago, 1989, working on a book, "Indonesia Voyage Through the Archipelago" with some truly great photographers. I think I was invited by mistake!

From overseas were
Abbas, Ping Amranand, Bruno Barbey, Ian Berry, Star Black, Rene Burri, Wendy Chan, Paul Chesley, Michael Freeman, Gerald Gay, George Gerster, Ara Guler, Bernard Hermann, Mike Hosken, Peter Hufgard, Richard Kalvar, Martin Kers, Leong Ka Tai, Leo Meier, Robin Moyer, Kal Muller, Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Basil Pao, Eddy Posthuma de Boer, Raghu Rai, Guido Alberto Rossi, Dominic Sansoni, Mahendra Sinh, Hiroshi Suga, Luca Invernizzi Tettoni, Peter van der Velde, Steve Vilder, Mark Wexler, Mike Yamashita.

The Indonesian photographers were
Back Tohir, Desi Harahap, Rio Helmi, Kartono Riyadi, Koes, Agus Leonardus, Andre Pribadi, Santoso Alimin, Fendi Siregar, Tara Sosrowardojo, and Andreas Darwis Triadi
My  assignment was to photograph the Toraja people of South Sulawesi.
The publisher Didier Millet had kindly invited me to work on many publications... in Thailand, Brunei, Singapore and Malaysia.

I have had time today to dig a bit into my murky past, looking for pictures I thought had long disappeared.
I found these this afternoon, on the eve of an anniversary I would rather forget.

Thank you OBS! It's been fun looking through old images and reminding myself of places visited.
